Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery established in 1984, is one of the major scientific societies in the field of ophthalmology in Hellas (Greece). The aim of HSIOIRS is the spread of knowledge in the field of interest, by organizing scientific meetings, instruction courses, wet labs, scientific publications and by collaborating with other Hellenic and foreign Ophthalmological Societies.

The Hungarian SCRS (SHIOL) was founded twenty years ago, in December 1988. Daniel Vorosmarthy the inventor of the oculopressor was the president for six years. The Society is very popular amongst Hungarian Ophthalmologists; about 400 members participate in the annual congress.

Societa Oftalmologica Italiana (SOI) was founded in 1879, the Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI) is a Non Profit Organisation. SOI aims to improve services provide to the community, to promote the scientific progress of Ophthalmology and to defence the ethical and deontological principles of this sector. The Association has 4500 members and organise two yearly events. In the May, the meeting gives special attention to international speakers, whereas in November, the congress is a consolidated appointment for Italian ophthalmologists.

Slovak Society of Ophthalmology has 538 members. Society is umbrella for 6 sections. One of them is SCIRS (Slovak Cataract Implant and Refractive Society). The Sociedad Española de Cirugía Ocular Implanto-Refractiva (SECOIR) was founded in 1981. The aim of the society is to promote anterior segment, refractive and cataract surgery. EyeNet Sweden was instituted in January 2003, as a centre of competence within the field of quality registries. The Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR), with its long experience of data collection and research, formed the framework of this new developing centre. EyeNet Sweden’s general purpose is to start, develop, use and support the national quality registries and to improve analyses and use of outcome data.
