The Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR)

NCRThe Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR) was founded on January 1 1992. The NCR is financed by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, and is administered by the Swedish Ophthalmological Society by a steering committee.

The NCR database now contains data pertaining to more than 1,000,000 operations, and the data represents 95.6% of the surgeries performed in Sweden during 1992–2009. Validity studies have shown that data are reliable, and the continued participation of almost every provider of cataract surgery in Sweden makes the register highly representative for Swedish cataract surgery.

To avoid double entry for the Swedish surgeons the NCR has been directly interfaced with the EUREQUO system. The NCR contributed with more than 200,000 cases in the EUREQUO system. In the long term, it is estimated that NCR will transfer to EUREQUO 82.000 cases per year.

Cataract Registry

In the Netherlands we have a registry of quality outcomes for cataract surgery since May 2007.
Dutch doctors are required by the insurance companies to report their outcomes annually. Quality outcomes registration is an external hospital quality indicator. Herewith surgeons are provided with a tool for benchmarking and clinical improvement. 70% of the Dutch cataract surgeons are using the Dutch quality registry. The data will be transferred to the EUREQUO database. NOG contributed to the EUREQUO system with 220.000 cases.  It is estimated that 70.000 cases per year will be transferred to the system.

Refractive

The Dutch web-based refractive outcomes programme is ready since October 2010. In the Netherlands we have a certification procedure for refractive surgeons and all certified refractive surgeons have to report their results annually. The data will be transferred to the EUREQUO database. The refractive register will transfer to EUREQUO about 8.000 cases per year.
